In chapter two, Kidder makes a trip to Brigham. He is careful to mention explicit details and accounts for every moment in this day. The reason for his being at Brigham, is that Farmer had previously arranged for a rendezvous there. Farmer is characterized as this eminent doctor who is as selfless as it gets. He seems to illuminate the bleak situatioons and is steadfast in his medical work.
