In chapter seven of Mountains Beyond Mountains it is mainly about Dr. Farmers past relationship with Ophelia Dahl who in the end rejects his marriage proposal and states how he is too consumed in his work and that they have different goals in life. They then witness a Haitian women get into a car accident and a "carpet of mangoes" covered her, the scene was devastating to the both of them. Paul Farmer then composes a poem dedicated to Ophelia about the "Mango Lady". Their relationship grows on the basis of the people of Haiti and that is what also separates them in the end to take different paths in their lives.
