Chapter 7 Analysis
In this chapter it is written from the viewpoint of Ophelia Dahl, which brings more emphasis to the great compassion, and empathy Paul Farmer had for the poor. It also shows the dedication that Paul Farmer had for his job which effects the people who love him. It brings more clarity to why a woman like Ophelia would be impossible to make a life with him because of the commitment Paul Farmer has to his job. The chapter begins with a letter explaining why Ophelia couldn't marry him. The story of the Mango Lady is a metaphor for Haiti itself as seen in Paul’s poem. She is the country dying in the midst of circumstances created by the wealthy and the elite.
