Kidder's Assumption and Is he right?

Throughout this book we have been learning about Farmer and all the sacrifices he has made to help the Haitian people. He has sacrificed his life and living conditions to make a difference and help these people in need. Farmers assumption is if you want to help them you'll make sacrifices out of your daily life for these people. In my opinion he is right, many of us see these people in need and just sit on our couches in blank stares saying how bad we feel for them, but then we don't do anything. In the book Farmer says " But WL's think all the world's problems can be fixed without any cost to themselves. We don't believe that. There's a lot to be said for sacrifice, remorse, even pity." Farmer is right we won't be able to fix anything if we don't sacrifice anything from ourselves. And this is what are mission for our senior experience should be, to get all of our peers involved to helping Haiti and sacrificing at least a little bit of our time a day, to make a difference.

  1. I agree with your mission for our Common Senior Experience. I believe we should truly relate to Kidder's assumption and make a true difference and sacrifice ourselves.
