Do people who actually help make sacrifices?
I would agree with such an assumption. Helping out with anything, especially in Haiti, would require the will to act. Farmer, through Kidder's eyes, is very selfless. Farmer has given up his money, his time with family, and his own free time to help out the people of Haiti. In another real-life example, some police officers may "bend" the rules or break some entirely to get things done like catching criminals or solving cases. Police officers go as far as risking their own lives to enforce the law and protect people. Kidder had to do that long two-to-five hour trek through the mountains to get to Morne Michel to help out with Farmer, and he suffered a bit. Another note about sacrifice: the person that is making a sacrifice must be aware of both positive and negative reactions to the action he will perform. Then, he or she can reflect on their performance by asking, "Did I do a good thing?" or "Did I mess up?" It helps boost their self-esteem.
